  David Gibson and Mary migrated to Gilmer Co. in 1844. They are listed on the census as "Gipson", but unmistakably it is them. In Book L, page 229 of the Lewis Co. Courthouse in Weston we find the following document: December 11, 1844 This Indenture made this 11th day of December 1844 between John Varner and William Ratliff of the first part and David Gipson (sic) of the second part and George Gipson, son of David and all other children of said David of the third part, witnessth: That for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars this day in hand paid by the said John Varner to the said William Ratliff hath bargained, sold, and delivered to the said David Gipson (sic), the following said personal property to wit: Four head of cows, 12 head of sheep, 25 head of hogs, one black mare, one waggon and harness and gears thereunto belonging, it being the same property, except said mare, lately sold by George Lynch, Constable of Lewis County, on an execution against said David Gipson and purchased by the said William Ratliff, to have and to hold to the said David Gipson forever upon the trust nevertheless that the said David Gipson shall hold the said property and the increase thereof inclusively for the use of his said son George and his other children, except his eldest son William Gipson, free from his own debts now existing or hereafter contracted and upon the further trust that if it should be expedient to sell, exchange, or dispose of any of said property or its further increase, the said David shall exercise a judicious discretion in doing so. But shall only act as a trustee for his said children and shall have whatever he may sell or exchange any of said property for conveyed to his said children for the benefit of all the said children except the said William Gipson. Signed: William Ratliff John Varner David Gibson married Elizabeth Pfifer (Pfeiffer), widow of Archibald Deweese and Augustus Pfeiffer, in Gilmer Co. in 1853. David and Elizabeth are found in Calhoun Co. in 1860. Alcinda is the only child left at home. I am making detailed notes on the Gibson family because a couple of researchers, including myself, feel that Mary Susannah who married Martin Ratliff may have been a Gibson, perhaps Osborn Gibson's sister or cousin. The James Ratliff family lived on Gibsons Mill Creek. There were 11 early Gibson families in Louisa Co. Below is a list from the 1787 Louisa Co.
