• Notes

  Richard recieved a land patent on July 1, 1853 for 62 acres on Back Creek, Bath Co., Va. Richard's last land transaction took place in 1874. His death then is 1875-1880. Richard received a land patent/grant on January 1, 1850 for 136 acres on the Back Creek of lands joining Roger Hickman. Bath Co. Deeds and Wills, 1809-1871, page 26. Know all lmen by these presents that we Richard Ratliff and Samuel S. Williams are held and firmly bound unto Archibald Stuart of the Judges of the General Court now sitting, in the sum of one hundred dollars to which payment will be made to the said Judge or his successor. We bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated the 5th day of April 1830. The condition of the above obliagation is such that whereas the above Richard Ratliff is appointed by the Superior Court o fLaw for Bath County, guardian of Ellen Gibson, an infant child of Osborn Gibson, deceased. Now, if the above Richard Ratliff shall secure the estate of the said child and Independent, the court rules the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force. Richard Ratliff, seal Sam.
