  judge of the High Court of Admiralty inherited Morrisania and the title of manor lord when he was 48. He had a large family by his first wife Katryntje Staats who had died some fifteen years earlier. In the same year he took possession of Morrisiana, Lewis Morris jr remarried Sarah Gouverneur, a daughter of a rich merchant and large landowner. By this second marriage he had more children, notably a son who would become both famous and wealthy, Gouverneur Morris. In a typical Morris tradition, Lewis Morris II split his estate upon his death, leaving half of it and the title of Lord of the Manor of Morrisania to his eldest son Lewis Morris III. The remainder of his estate was disposed of in a more complex way, granting a life interest to his widow and upon her death allowing his sons in line to opt for taking over the land upon payment of a 7'000 £ deed to his siblings.
