    • At the time of his marriage to Daisy Parker on June 7, 1905 John Manford
      Mars hall was a traveling salesman for Feuchter Brothers. Following this,
      he and a man named Marx became partners in a factory in Cairo, Illinois,
      that manufa ctured overalls, a popular item in a farming area. During
      World War I they h ad a contract with the U.S. Army to manufacture items
      of army uniforms.
      In 1 927 he became a traveling salesman for the Schwanda Company, a button
      manufac turer. Buttons were also a popular item as many clothes were made
      at home, e specially at this period of time. He was very successful and
      hard-working an d many times his trips lasted from four to six weeks "on
      the road" with him s pending his nights in boarding houses catering to
      travelling men such as hims elf. His grandson, John Frederick Marshall,
      recalls his automobile being loa ded down with "sample cases" containing
      thousands of buttons of all types so ld by dry goods stores. .
      John Manford Marshall is remembered as being a very religious man and
      attended various churches while on the road. He was also a 32nd Degree
      Mason and a Knight Templar in that order.
      His death was by acci dental drowning on a fishing trip by himself to
      Horseshoe Lake near Cairo, Il linois, and he was buried in the family plot
      in Thistlewood Cemetery at Mound s, Pulaski County, Illinois.
