• Notes

  Sir Thomas BEAUMONT succeeded his kinsman, Sir Richard BEAUMONT, Bart., and became of Whitley Beaumont. He was for sometime of the Midd le Temple and of Castle Hall. In 1642 he was appointed sergeant-major of Sir W illiam SAVILE's regiment and in the following year nominated Deputy Governor, and eventually Governor of Sheffield Castle [on January 31, 1643]. He was Lt. Col. of the Yorks militia and was knighted by Charles II on June 27, 1660. His correspondence during the Civil Wars with Sir William SAVILE is now deposited in the Bodleian Library.
