    • John was a Huguenot and during the great persecution by the Roman Catholics, he fled to England where the government offered to send emigrants to America on condition they would swear allegiance to the Crown of England. He embarked from Gravesend, England in the Barque "Assurance", July 1635. He became an influential citizen in Norwalk, Conn. and was Representative in the general court of the Colony of Conn. and served in many official capacities in Norwalk. He left land and an estate part of which remained in possession of his decendants over 200 years.
