  Joel Ray Brown was raised by his mother. His parents divorced when he was still and infant. His mother had to travel a lot on business so he spent a lot of time with his maternal grand parents James Allen and Maria Clegg. I have a photo copy of a post card he had written to his mother on his arrival back at his grandparents house where he told her how very happy his dog was to see him. When he was 10 or 11 his mother remarried a man named John Copeland and he seems to have been very fond of his younger half brothers. One died as a teenager but the other one James Copeland always lived close to him and when he moved from California to Oregon Jim followed his brother and stayed close, so it wasn't even as if they were half brothers. After Raye died in 1963 Jim stayed close to his nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Bea Anna. And when he became ill she took care of him until she became ill with cancer. Then his Neice Ray Anna Brown took over after her mothers death, until he passed away about 5 years ago.
