| Although it appears that this family's name settled as Wilford, it was known also as Wilsford and (earlier?) Wilfford. It is noted that Visitation (Devon, 1620) refers to a family named Willesford. |

There is some disagreement between our sources on this and the next generation. Visitation (Kent, 1619) contains 2 records for the family, one starting with the above William, father of Robert, and follows only the line of Jacob, the other starting with this generation but names him Thomas, showing him as father of Jacob, Peter and another. Similarly, Visitation (Essex, 1558) contains 2 records for the family, both starting with this generation, one naming him Robert the other Thomas, with son James being shown in both but other sons differing. The following attempts to pull them together but there is some concern that there has been some confusion between brothers or cousins though, fortunately, it appears not to make too much difference to the ancestry of the later generations shown below. |
