  i. Nicholas Pitt of Stepleton (d c1545)
  a. John Pitt of Blandford (d c1596)
Although they identify him as grandson of a Nicholas Pitt who lived temp Henry VI (who r. 1422-61, 1470-1), both BP1870 (Rivers) and BE1883 (Pitt-Rivers) start with this John without identifying Blandford as his seat/location. It reports that John was father (by Joan Swayne) of 2 daughters and 3 sons: Sir William (m. Edith Cadbury), John (to Ireland), and Thomas of Blandford (ancestor of the Earls/Lords of Chatham, Londonderry, and Camelford). This differs from what we show which is that the line that leads to Chatham, etc., branches away from the Strathfieldsaye line at the next generation rather than this one. This is to be investigated further in due course.
