      Jay:

I am surprised that Catherine (Noonan) Williams's death certificate showed
her place of birth as Chatham, NB, because the Thomas Noonan family lived
at Cains River, in Blackville parish, possibly 35 miles west of Chatham.
Their home church would have been the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at
The Forks, which was superseded in the 1890s by St Raphael's Church at
Blackville. Unfortunately, I do not have ready access to the church
records, but they exist and are indexed, as I recall.

I have assembled the following for you. There would almost certainly be
more to be learned from the church records, later census returns, etc.

      Northumberland Co. Marriage #2674
      Thomas Noonan/Eliza English - 19 June 1843
On the nineteenth day of June eighteen hundred and forty three by licence
Thomas Noonan and Eliza English, natives of Ireland, were married according
to the rite of the Catholic Church by me the undersigned missionary:

      Michael Egan, PP

      Thomas Noonan, his mark
      Eliza English, her mark

      in the presence of

      James English, his mark
      Catherine Cain, her mark

      1851 CENSUS:
      Thomas Noonan, widower, 45, Irish, entered NB 1826, farmer (proprietor);
Maria Noonan, daughter, 7, b. NB (Blackville, pp. 23-24)

      Northumberland Co. Marriage #3500
      Thomas Noonan/Bridget Grattan - 21 July 1853
[The reason I asked about the identity of William Noonan was that I take
Bridget Grattan to have been a daughter of Henry Grattan and his wife Ann
(Nancy) Dowling (later spelled Dolan), of Blackville parish]

On the twenty first day of July eighteen hundred and fifty three, Thomas
Noonan and Bridget Grattan were married according to the rite of the
Catholic Church by me the undersigned missionary:

      Michael Egan, PP

      Thomas Noonan, his mark
      Bridget Grattan, her mark

      in the presence of

      Thomas McDermott, his mark
      Margaret Grattan, her mark

      1861 CENSUS:
Thomas Noonan, husband, 55, Irish, farmer, RC; Bridget, wife, 29, native,
RC; Mariah, daughter, 17; Peter 7, Catherine 6, John 4, Thomas 3, Margaret
      A. 1 (Blackville, p. 6)

      1871 CENSUS:
Thomas Noonan, 66, b. Ireland, RC, farmer; Bridget, wife, 40; Peter 16,
      Catherine 14, John 13, Thomas 12, Margaret 10, Bridget 7, Mary Jane 6,
      Patrick 4, James 2, Henry 1 (Blackville, Div. 2, p. 21) [Agricultural and
manufacturing statistics with this census give full details on the family's
land, cattle, etc., showing them to have been of typical economic standing
      for the Cains River community.]

Newcastle, NB, 6 March 1874 - rumors here are generally believed correct of
a terrible occurrence on Cains River. A lumber camp occupied by Daniel
Mahoney, his three sons, and a young man named NOONAN was destroyed by fire
recently, and all but the former burned to death. Mahoney, it is said,
left camp for home for a short time and when he returned the camp was in
ashes. among which he discovered to his horror the bones of the four young
men (Daily Telegraph, Saint John, NB, 7 March 1874)

      1881 CENSUS:
Bridget Noonan, widow, b. NB, farmer, RC, Irish; Thomas 18, Patrick 26,
      James 12, Henry 11, Margaret 14, Bridget 13, Mary Jane 15 (Blackville, p.
      51) [The ages are jumbled in this way in the typed copy which I have and
      are not all correct.]

      Elizabeth on your list.

Let me know if this information is useful to you.

Also, could you tell me anything about where the different Noonans lived,
to whom they were married, etc.?
