Sein Verwandtschaftsverhältnis zur Wechmarer Linie, welcher Johann Sebastian Bach entstammt, ist nicht geklärt.
Er ging früh auf Reisen nach Holland und England , war in Tann (Rhön) als Kantor tätig, studierte in Göttingen und Leipzig , ließ sich in Güstrow als Advokat nieder, kehrte wieder nach Tann zurück und verbrachte seinen Lebensabend nach einer Reise in die Schweiz in Elberfeld, einem Stadtteil des heutigen Wuppertal.
Von ihm sind sechs folgende Werke überliefert: - sechs Cembalokonzerte - geistliche Kantaten - weltliche Kantaten - Liedersammlung "Schweizer Naturszenen" - Generalbasslehre
