    • Opera soprano, toured America and Europe in concert for over 20 years, performed before Pres. Lincoln in Ford's Theater, debuted in New York in Feb. 1861 with the New York Academy of Music production of Rigoletto

      first great American prima donna, resided at Elpstone, New Hartford, the last 29 years of her life.
      The family lived in Pine Meadow for several generations.
      She was educated in New York and in 1861 sang in the Academy of Music. Later she sang at her Majesty's Theater in London; with Nilsson at Drury Lane and before many crowned heads of Europe. Her greatest successes were in opera. She toured the United States in the '70s and after 1880 appeared chiefly in concerts. She married her manager

      She made her debut in 1861 in New York City and in 1863 sang Marguerite in the first New York performance of Gounod’s Faust.
      From 1873 to 1876 she toured the United States with her own company, producing operas in English.
