- !BIOGRAPHY: Half sister to Beilby Porteus, Bishop of London and writer of religious books as well as poetry. At one point the Towles family at Towles Point was in possesion of his silver, but this except for one tea server was stolen during the War of 1812 by British soldiers. She was also a second cousin to George Washington through his grandmother Mildred Warner. . Elizabeth B Mason, "Porteus - Downman Family", (Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 34, 1 Jan. 1990 Her brother Robert Porteus is the 5th Great Grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II through her mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
