- Ancestors were possibly named POIRER from Southern France &
migrated to Southern Ireland when name was changed to POWERS.
According to Mrs. Walter Noe of Danbury, Connecticut (86 years
old Jan 1991), who knew Loretta personally, Loretta's mother,
Mary O'Connor, died when Loretta was one year old. John
Powers, her father, could not raise a baby, so he gave Loretta
to his deceased wife's sister, Margareta 'Maggie' O'Connor.
When Loretta was about 9 years old (approx. 1909), Maggie met
and fell in love with John Bigham, a widower with 2 daughters,
Anna and Florence from his first marriage. They married,
continued to raise Loretta as well as having another child
together, Margaret. In the meantime, Maggie's other sisters,
Gerty & Kitty O'Connor (See Notes on Mary L. O'Connor), were
raising orphaned children - Alfred, Arthur & Ethyl McEneaney,
possibly Loretta's second cousins. McEneaney possible
relationship: GRANDMOTHER MARY McENEANEY'S BROTHER'S
GRANDCHILDREN.
