  • Notes
    • Lewis Frank Rice was the first child of eight born to W. C. and Myrtle Amyx Rice. He was born in Sanger, TX, went to school there and finished in Memphis, TX where he played football for the high school. When the family moved to Eldorado, OK he followed, but shortly afterward went into the Navy and served four years during WWII.

Lewis married Margie Hawkins in Norman, OK., daughter of a Baptist minister. When he was in the service, he brought Margie and David to Eldorado to live and he and Daddy built them a home there by our home. Later they moved to California to be with Lewis and had Donald there.

After Lewis got out of the service he surrendered to the call of the Lord to preach. He moved his family to Shawnee, OK where he attended OBU and preached simultaneously to raise his family. They had Elizabeth and Sharon while living in Oklahoma.

Lewis Rice served as a Baptist minister, serving the Lord in churches at Wanette, OK, Billings, OK, Rangely, CO, Coalinga and King City, CA. They got to travel to Brazil to visit Doreen Hawkins, a Southern Baptist Missionary and President of the Women's Baptist Seminary; which she founded there. Doreen is a sister of Margie. Lewis got to preach there through an interpreter, which was a highlight of his life. The were sent on a vacation to Hawaii as an anniversary gift from their church in King City, CA.

He retired after 40 years of Christian service and he and Margie traveled, visiting siblings and children. Unfortunately he was killed in a four-car collision as they were going to visit David in Durango, CO. Margie escaped without serious injury. He is buried in Coalinga, CA.
