- He was a wine importer and merchant in Dublin and succeeded sufficiently to purchase 147 acres of land at Finnestown in Co Dublin, and he also acquired the Corkagh Estate where he lived, leasing with Theodore Raboteau (his brother-in-law?) lands at Gouran, Co Kilkenny in 1709.
There was a record in the Four Courts in Dublin of a trial related to smuggling and Lewis Chaigneau’s business.
