- King of France (954-986).
Lothar, the eldest son of Louis IV from Overseas, succeeded his father in 954 A.D. During his reign, the Robertian clan acquired greater power and influence, through Hugh the Great to whom Lothar granted sovereignty over Aquitaine in 955 A.D. and through Hugh Capet who became King of the Francs in 960 A.D. In 978, Lothar waged war against King Otto II of Germany but this served only to facilitate Hugh Capet's rise to power. Lothar died in 986 and was succeeded by his son, Louis V.
