King of the Franks 720 - 721
King of Neustria (715-721), King of the Franks (c. 720-721).
Chilperic II, Childeric II's son, was placed on the throne of Neustria in 715 A.D. on the death of Dagobert III by Rainfroi, Mayor of the Palace, in an effort to counter the influence of Charles Martel, Mayor of the Palace in Austrasia. Charles Martel, however, defeated the Neustrians in 717 and 719 and Chilperic II was obliged to acknowledge him as Mayor of the Palace in Neustria. Charles Martel then recognised Chilperic as King of the Franks c. 720 A.D.
