  • Notes
    • worked as a dancer on Broadway. After replacing the injured star in The Pajama Game (1954), she made her movie debut in The Trouble with Harry (1955) and went on to play comic and dramatic roles in Some Came Running (1959), The Apartment (1960), Irma La Douce (1963), Sweet Charity (1969), The Turning Point (1977), Terms of Endearment (1983, Academy Award), and Madame Sousatzka (1988). She wrote several best-selling books, often about her mystical experiences, incl. Out on a Limb (1983) and Going Within (1989).

MacLaine's personal life includes a few high-profile romances and an early marriage to Steve Parker
(they're now divorced). She worked in Hollywood, and he spent most of his time working in Japan. Their
daughter Sachi, now a housewife living with her husband in Greenwich, Connecticut, went to live with
her father in Japan when she turned seven. Both parents agreed that growing up away from Hollywood
      would be to her advantage.
The well-traveled MacLaine doesn't shy away from long-distance relationships. Her latest is with
former Australian politician Andrew Peacock, who is now a businessman and frequently travels to the
States. Flirting with politics (or politicians) began in the 60s. Twice, in 1968 and 1972, she was a delegate
from California for Robert Kennedy at the Democratic National Convention. Both she and her brother
also campaigned for presidential candidate George McGovern. Today, however, politics is not a burning
      issue for her.
