  • Notes
    • Grassini was an excellent opera singer (performed at La Scala) who practically threw herself at Napoleon. Napoleon was not as interested as she was according to this qote taken from The Women Napoleon Loved, pg 166
"I alone drew every eye, inflamed all hearts. The youthful general alone was cold, yet he alone enthralled me. How strange, how seldom found!. When I really was worth something, when all Italy was at my feet, and I was spurning her in highflown fashion for one of your glances, I failed to win one, and now behold you bend them on me who am unworthy of your pains; no longer do I merit your condescension"

In 1814, she was regularly seen around Paris with the Duke of Wellington and, while that is no proof as to a relationship, the great British commander did carry a portrait of her.
