  Jonas emigrated to the US in 1891 at age 18 to Minnesota. He worked onfarms there and in North Dakota until 1898 when he relocated to Montanaexpecting to find work with the Great Northern Railway. When the job didnot work out he moved to Dupuyer, Mt where he worked on the Leach SheepRanch for 6 1/2 yrs. He met Elsie Helgeson in Cooperstown, ND and theywere married in 1903 in Choteau, MT. In early 1904 they moved to ahomestead near the Canadian border north of Cut Bank, MT where they builta home and raised sheep and cattle. During that time they had 6 children.They bought a home in Cut Bank in 1921 in order for the children toattend school. In 1938 they moved to Cut Bank. In 1943 they bought a farmnear St Paul, Oregon in the Willamette Valley where they lived until1946. They then moved back to Cut Bank where they remained until death. 1910 census for Marias Twp, School Dist 17, Teton Co., Mt Series T624,Roll 835, Page 121, lists John Vasbo (sp) age 36, Elsie age 35, Oscar age4, Tede age 3 and Katy age 1.
