Notes |
- Was associated with his brother John Eliot Thayer in one of the first Boston banking houses and would build one of the largest fortunes in New England. Among the Thayers’ children were another prominent financier also named Nathaniel Thayer (b.1851) who played a part in the consolidation of America’s steel industry, as well as a famous ornithologist John Eliot Thayer (b.1862) who made another prominent marriage, to Evelyn Duncan Forbes.
