MO ALVERDA VIRGINIA (KENNISON) HART " Died February 20, 1934, Alvirdia Kennison Hart. She was the daughter of Davis and Mary Kennison and was born Nov. 3, 1844 near Wheeling, West Virginia, the youngest of five sisters and she had one brother. Her parents brought her to Missouri when she was three, coming down the Ohio in a keel boat, in company with a number of other keel boats banded together for mutual protection. They landed at Westport Landing, now Kansas City, and went to Andrew Co. until the War. Her father joined the Confederate army at this time and never saw his family and loved ones again, for he died at Old Bolton (Boston) (Bowie County) Texas. The family then moved to the territory of Nebraska, Alvirdia Kennison married John Jay Hart in 1865. They had eight children Mary Brooks of Warsaw; G.D. Hart of Winthrop, Arkansas; Dr. E. Frank Hart, who died in 1896; Samuel F. Hart of Sedalia; M.R.D. Hart, also of Winthrop, Arkansas, and Annie and Warren, who died in infancy. The Hart family lived in Richardson County, Nebraska until 1879, when they came to Missouri. In 1919 John Jay Hart sold his Missouri interests and he and his wife moved to Arkansas to avoid the rigorous winters here. He died there in 1925. Mrs. Hart was a Baptist but her funeral was at the Methodist Church in Winthrop." _____________ Email from Pat Gilbert on 12/9/2000 Hi All- Today I received certified copies of death certificates from Arkansas for Alverda and her son Gedney. I have not received John Jay's yet. Here is a recap (using spelling as the certificate has it): Alverdia Virvinga Hart, Place of death- Little River Co. Little River Twp, Winthrop Date of death 2/20/1934. Married/Widowed-Wife of John Jay Hart . Date of birth blank. Died age 89 y 3 m 17 days. Birthplace- near Wheeling, Virginia. Name and birthplace of father- blank. Maiden name of mother- Virginia V. Kinnison, birthplace blank. Burial Campground 2/22/1934. Died from old age and Influenza. Informant G.D. Hart of Winthrop, Ark. Gedney D. Hart, Place of death- Miller Co. Texarkana, St. Michael's Hospital. Usual Residence: Arkansas, Little River Co. Winthrop, Street Address-General Delivery. Date of death- August 9, 1956, age 87 y 7 m 15 d days. Married block says "Widowed". Father's name- John J. Hart. Mother's maiden name-Unk. Ever in Armed Forces- "No". SS # 431-32-8220. Birthplace- Nebraska City, Nebraska. Died of congestive heart failure, senility, and urinary tract infection. Buried Camp Ground Cemetery, Winthrop, Arkansas. Funeral Director- Fred Wilkerson, DeQueen, Ark. Informant- Mon Hart, Lockesburg, Arkansas. My personal observations- 1) Gedney shows widowed yet his ex-wife Minnie was still alive. Possibly he remarried and was widowed or could be an error. 2) I had his death Aug 8- this has Aug 9. 3) Alverda's mother's name given as Virginia Kinnison- her obit says mother's name was Mary. 4) Interesting that Gedney did not complete Alverda's father's name Davis, since this was Gedney's middle name. 5) Alverda's birthplace shows Wheeling, VA but obit has Wheeling, WV (She always showed VA in census records- may be that was considered VA when she was born.)
