  • Notes
    • James H. Hooper, Joseph's son, first married Lucinda Stump on May 22,
1823. At the time of his death in 1832 his wife's name was Susan. The
1830 census shows James H. Hooper in Davidson County with his wife and
a daughter under five. Widows support was awarded to Susan Hooper on
March 3, 1833 af follows " We the undesigned commissioners appointed
by the worshipful County Court of Davidson County at the October
session 1832 to lay off and set apart one years provisions for Mrs.
Susan Hooper, widow and relick of James H. Hooper decd., have met on
the premisis this 6th November... have assigned her the field of corn
lying west of the spring branch running west to Mrs. Parkers and also
25 hogs to be first Choice of the whole stock hogs on the premisis.."
His brother, Claybourne Y., was executor of the estate. A sale of his
estate shows several items purchased by Susan including two chests and
a tea set. These items and a photo of Susan and James Hooper are
believed the same as those in the possession of James I. Greer, Sr.
There were also sales of slaves and the final sale amounted to
$3268.09. Susan and James H. Hooper were the parents of Nancy Hooper
who married John Cake in 1843 at the age of fourteen. After the death
of James H. Hooper, Susan married Jessee P. Cullam on April 2, 1833.
