    • Johan Jost Herkimer Jr was a Tory and fought on the side of the British during the Rev. War. He served as a
      Colonel in the 4th Battalion of the Tryon County Militia.
      Because of his Loyalist beliefs he was jailed by the Whigs from May 12,1776 until he escaped on March 4,1777 and fled to Canada , his family joined him later and they remained there.(He was probably exchanged for Colonial prisoners.
      On 6 Aug 1777 he fought at Aurisco against his brother, Genral Nicholas Herkimer. Johan Jost's estate in the Mohawk Valley was confiscated in 1779.
      In Canada, he served in the company of Frontenac Militia. He was mustered out on Oct. 9, 1784 and recieved 3450 acres in the area that is now Kingston, Ont.
