    • Corderoy Bernard, the son of Richard Bernard and his second wife , Anne Corderoy, was born at Petsoe in Buckinghamshire, England.   He is known to have emigrated to Virginia with his parents bef ore 1647, as the headright for this individual appears in his mo ther's land patent.

      Corderoy's son, Samuel, relationship unproven but likely due t o name tradition, migrated to Northeastern NC (Pasquotank or Cur rituck Co.) by 15 July 1712 . On that date he witnessed the Dee d of Gift of John Creech in open court, in Pasquotank County, NC . On 21 April 1713 he witnessed the sale of land from Tho. Empso n to Mary Casey.

      Instances of the name Corderoy Barnard appeared in generations o f Barnards/Bernards thereafter. This line of Barnards is also be lieved to have resided in Pasquotank (now Camden County) NC as o riginal land patentees by the mid 1700's, with the given names C orderoy, Samuel and William also appearing there.
