||Childebert d' Austrasia |
||12 Jul 2007 |
- King of Austrasia (575-595), King of Burgundy (592-595).
Childebert, the son of Sigebert I and Brunhild, succeeded his father on the throne of Austrasia at the age of five, in 575 AD, but because of his young age remained under his mother's tutelage. He was adopted by his uncle, Guntram, King of Burgundy, whom he succeeded in 592 A.D. under the terms of the Treaty of Andelot (587 A.D.), thereby uniting Austrasia, Burgundy and the Orleans and Paris regions. He died shortly afterwards, in 595 A.D, possibly as a result of poisoning by his wife Faileuba. His states were divided between his two sons, Theodebert II and Theodoric II.
