Childebert's second son received the kingdoms of Orleans and Burgundy on his father's death in 595 A.D. He reigned under the control of his grandmother, Brunhild, who had been exiled from Austrasia by his brother, Theodebert II. The two brothers fought and defeated King Chlotar II of Neustria (604 A.D). Then, with Brunhild's encouragement, Theodoric turned on his brother, defeating him in Tout and Tolbiac in 612 AD. and taking over the kingdom of Austrasia.
